About
Karin Creutz-Kämppi is a researcher at the Centre for Research on Ethnic Relations and Nationalism, CEREN, part of the Swedish School of Social Science (SSKH) at the University of Helsinki. Since 2001 she has been conducting research on media representations of minorities, with a focus on discourses on Islam. She is now finalizing her MA in sociology on collective identification through othering in media debates, focusing on supra-national level nationalisms and the idea of Europe as a framework for collective identification. Karin is currently part of Eurosphere, a project by sixteen European universities which focuses on political and civil society actors' views on ethnic and national diversity, migration and the development of the European Union in relation to these. Her research interests include expressions of nationness through conceptualizations of immigrant minorities and media portrayal of politics surrounding minority integration.
