About
I'm writing my thesis for Ph.D. at the moment.
I'm trying to identify the possible shortcomings of David J. Elliott's Music Matters in the sphere of communication media. The theoretical bias and base can be found in Jürgen Habermas' Theory of Communicative Action. I'm trying to find those dimensions of systemic integration that causes the colonization of lifeworld in the sphere of music as a lived experience constituting the lifeworld itself.
I'm advocating an approach which attemps to define music in it's institutional level conforming rationality it entails maintaining itself by manufacturing and exploiting products available for consuming.
At the same time music is viewed in terms of lifeworld that renews or at least should renew itself by communicative rationality. At this dimension music is understod in subject manner; music that is heard is constituting the musical lifeworld which is constantly renewing by experiences and iterpretations.
As pragmatism is used widely both in criticising and develeoping the praxial theory of music education, it is important to concider dimensions and relations between habermasian concept of lifeworld and more pragmatistic concept of experience.
