Faculty Member, Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies
Research Fellow
About
I am currently working at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. After that fellowship ends in July 2013, I will return to my post as University Lecturer of Sociology at the Department of Social Research, University of Helsinki.
I do research on health and social care occupations, health care policy and migrant integration, all in the context of the welfare state and globalization. Key theoretical concerns in my work include professionalism and social inequality. Currently, I am interested in how the idea of glocalisation may help us to analyse contemporary sociocultural transformations. I have a keen interest in qualitative research methodologies and historical and internationally comparative approaches in particular.
My ongoing Academy of Finland project concerns the position of migrant care workers in Finnish society. Working with colleagues, I'm particularly interested in the emergence of migrant-oriented recruitment strategies and their implications for labour markests as well as workplaces.
After a new coordinator was elected in September 2011, I am now co-coordinator for European Research Network (RN) 19, Sociology of Professions. If you already are or wish to be a part of this network, please join our mailing list.
